"Reality" Setting In

Oh it is here. The dreaded day, or the day of rejoicing, whichever you may call it....Alex has returned to work. I am SO BOARD! Totally not used to him being "out". Its been two days and I have spent more time on the computer than I could dream of. Since we no longer have Dish, there is absolutely NOTHING to watch! I have a netflix account which will help, but since I don't watch TV all day anyway, I have been doing some minor cleaning and cooking. I have aspirations of baking bread and coming up with new meals but I can't stand cooking, so this will be a challenge. It also seems to me that I am the only mom out there NOT enrolling her Four year old in Pre-School. I really wish I could, but have you seen how much Pre-school costs? I'm telling you the cheapest I have found is three days a week $85-90 a month! Maybe I'm cheap, but that is crazy! I'm trying to convince myself that I can teach her myself every day, and make up my own little pre-school curriculum for her, but I just don't even know where to start. If any of you have suggestions please fill me in. I want to do something that Mycah can get involved in too, even if she doesn't understand. So today in my "down time" I enjoyed the first half of season 1 of The Newlyweds. I loved Nick and Jessica and was totally bummed that they broke up. Here is the intro to the 1st Season. Enjoy.

  1. Hey, you're not the only one! I think preschool is WAY over rated! I might think it was worth while if it was all day every day but once I found out kindergarten was only 1/2 a day anyway, what's the point!?!? There are so many worksheets and things for free online that you can print off. Even online "game" sites for the kids to learn puzzles, letters, numbers, easy games etc. www.thekidzpage.com is one that we like. But just do a search for free preschool print outs or something similar. Walmart also has a section in the kids books aisle with several preschool workbooks and flash cards. The primary/nursery manuals are great too! Good luck!

  2. You got rid of your satelite? I would like to think I had the strength, but then I'd have to get really fast internet so I could still watch my favorite shows online... You are a star!

I bet your girls would love to play 'school' with you! What about other moms in your area? Could you get a group together and have each of you take a day to do the preschool?

  3. Well Scott and I listen to Dr. Laura sometimes on the radio and she is way anti pre-school. I'm not going to put my kids in pre-school either even if I can afford it. Your kids will go to school so fast and then they will be in school forever. I just don't see the rush. I think your friend gave good ideas about teaching Dejah at home.

  4. Oh and one more thought as far as cooking goes just think that even though you hate it, it's one more thing you can do in your day so you are less bored and feel like you've had a productive day. I am sort of preachy, I get it from my mom. I just think that homemade dinners are so good and that sitting down as a family for dinner time is so important. Our good friends in our ward have three kids and they have some frozen dinner really late and they eat in front of the tv. I just think something is wrong with that picture. (Not that I'm saying you do that, I've eaten some your wonderful cooking).

  5. So apparently I'm obsessed with this post but I just watched the video and it totally bummed me out. I hate when anyone gets divorced I think it is so depressing. I loved watching that show too. I never watched it in order though so maybe I should rent it too. Of course it does kind of ruin it for me since they are split.

  6. O.k., so DON'T stress over the preschool thing. My 3 older kids never went to preschool, and they adjusted JUST FINE when it was time for kindergarten. Jeremy's aunt was a 1st grade teacher for 38 years and I asked her if she could tell if kids went to preschool or not, if they were "ahead" of the other kids. They only thing she said she could tell as a teacher is if the parents worked with them at home. So what you are doing is JUST fine!...I'm really cheap, too :)
