Running Out Of Gas- An Emotional Affair
Have you ever ran your car completely out of gas. Well yesterday I was pretty sure that was going to happen to me if I didn't get my car to the gas station immediately! I'm pretty sure it was running on fumes. Of course I had somewhere to go and I was running late. I got my kids all loaded and pulled up to the pump thanking my lucky stars that I didn't end up stranded on the side of the road with four kids in the car and NO cell phone. (that is another story) I pick up my bag and start digging for my wallet. It was NOT THERE! Granted I was only a few minutes away, but I just knew if I went home to get it....I WOULD be stranded....I was THAT empty. So I luckily found my check book and hoped the gas people would let me use a check without I.D. So I go in and there are two ladies at the counter. I said to one of them," I am out of gas and left my wallet at home. I have my checkbook here. Would it be ok if I wrote out a check for the gas without my I.D.?" They both looked at each other and just started shaking their heads no. All of a sudden I started sweating in a panic, my face flushed bright red and I started bawling. In tears I said, "I don't live far, and can go get my wallet to show you my I.D., I even know my Drivers License number if you'll let me write it on the check, BUT I am OUT OF GAS and I'm pretty sure I won't make it there and back". They were both hesitating, and then this old man next to me asked me if I needed some gas. He offered to pay. And here I am just bawling in public. (So embarrassing). Anyway, I explained to him that I had my check book and the ladies said Ok. Anyway, I wrote out the measly check for $50 and got some gas. I don't know why I got so emotional, but my morning was already hectic, and I just couldn't keep it together. I was so embarrassed.
No Cell Phone
Do you remember back in the day when people actually lived without cell phones?? I do. I even remember in college when I got my first cell phone. It was becoming the "in" thing at that time. It was so cool that you could be anywhere and make and receive phone calls. Anyway, now we live in this crazy world of technology where you are practically an alien if you don't have one. Kids even have them. Anyway, I don't need to explain all the fun details of cell phones. I have one point...which is...I AM an "ALIEN". Yes. I officially do not have one. "WE" (as in Alex and I have had one that we.....hmuh..hmuh....share). We have a home phone (which is a Magic Jack)....its so cheep its pretty much free. Well, for some crazy reason Alex has become SO SO busy that he has to have the phone. Which makes me...."the alien". So now when I leave the house, I can't call anyone. No One can get a hold of me. And worst of all, if I were to become stranded for any reason....lets say....on the side of the road with no gas.....I would have to flag someone down to borrow THEIR cell phone and have to use my brain to remember a phone number. Ugh. You ask..."Why don't you just get another cell phone??" Answer #1: We are on a shared plan with my parents. We pay $25 a month for our phone. Their plan has its MAX on users, which means we would have to find another plan for just one phone for CHEAP (almost impossible). Answer #2: We are trying to decrease every bill possible to get out of debt. Adding a phone does NOT help. So what do I do? Complain about it on my blog (because I can :) ) And do nothing. However I have my Ipod Touch, which I can use anywhere with free Wifi. So I guess that only makes me Part "Alien".
Getting My Work-Out ON
I just have to say there are some things I LOVE about Kuna Idaho. My new favorite is that we have an amazing Church Stake. I don't know who started it, but every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday morning there is someone teaching some sort of work-out class. It is free, and you can bring your kids along. I haven't tried Mondays yet, but I guess it is aerobics. Wednesday is kickboxing. I did it for the first time a couple days ago and it kicked my REAR! It was awesome! Fridays and Saturdays are Zumba. I've only done Friday, but it is SO SO fun! I'm so excited because its been pretty much impossible to do anything at home, plus....WHO does not love working out with friends????? Now that I'm getting a workout a couple times a week...if I could only quit my Dr. Pepper addiction.
Other Thoughts
I just got Mycah signed up for preschool next year. I am so excited! Some friends found a two day a week preschool that only costs $35. I love her curriculum and ideas. Its also a small class, so I am thrilled!
Logan has been waking up super early. I'm not quite sure what to do about that. It almost doesn't matter what time he goes to bed. Hopefully the time change will fix that.
I am in the process of "remodeling" my room. It has been keeping me SO SO busy and is coming together so nicely. I can't wait to see the finished product! I would show current pictures, but I don't want to spoil the WOW factor.
Well, this post has been extra long. And I have no pictures to show. Sorry to bore you all to death. I've just been so busy there has been NO time to blog. C'Ya!
The workout thing seems great. I should start one in my stake.
ReplyDeleteI felt like crying reading about your gasoline story. It's hard enough getting the kids in the car - let alone worrying about being stranded on the side of the road. I'm sorry :(
ReplyDeleteWay to go on the working out! I am so ready not to be prego and to try my zumba wii.
Okay so I'm glad I'm not the only one that would cry in that situation. I know I would totally break down crying FOR SURE, you can count on it and why? Who knows, why is it so hard to explain yourself without crying, I don't know I've never done it. Sorry to hear about that I can totally sympathize.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the no cell phone goes, I know that sucks. I didn't have a cell phone for 3 years and it was annoying. But I can tell you that I had my own cell phone for at least 6 years and then had to go completely without for 3 years. You get used to it and now that I have a cell phone again, I forget to take it half the time. In my personal opinion little sacrifices are totally worth it to get out of debt. Good luck. Oh and when I went to Colorado last fall I was totally freaking out traveling by myself without a cell phone, but people used to do it all the time and they do have pay phones, and hey you can always ask someone to make a phone call. You can do it Anna. Be strong.
Keep a list of numbers in your glove box. I didn't have a cell for the longest time, and I only have one now because Mike works away from home all week and is only home on sunday. So with a cell I wont miss a call...but it's not like I ever leave the house anyway.
ReplyDeleteJealous of your steak. I'm stuck with workout videos that I can only get 1/2 way through because of children needing mom.
Good luck on your bedroom. So exciting!
I feel for you Anna! I've been at the grocery store with all 3 of my screaming kids (this was when they were lots younger) and my debit card wouldn't go through. I had NO checks, NOTHING! I was so embarrassed... anyways I started crying too. Sometimes it's just the straw that breaks the camels back ya know?! You're a great mom, and these experiences only make us stronger and give us something to laugh about in the future!!!
