My Mastitis HELL!!

It happened when Dejah was a baby. I was lucky enough not to get it with Mycah. Now onto kid number three....The Hell called Mastitis....AGAIN!! It started Saturday evening shortly after my family got home from their weekend trip in Arco. I had a plugged "breast mild duct", I wanted to tackle it head on and put heat on it to get it to loosen up. Sunday it hit me with the full force of a MADDDDD TRUCK! I was completely bed ridden with the chills, aching body, headache, cold sweats, you name it. If you've ever had it, you know exactly what I'm talking about! If you haven't, count your blessings. Its the worse "flu" you will ever get! It was Sunday, therefore No perscription drugs until Monday!! I just wanted to curl up and die! Monday I woke up vomiting and shaking uncontrollably. My nurse called in a prescription for me, and I was basically in and out of sleep all day soaking wet with sweat. Today there has been improvement, but its still there. We made a grocery run that just about put me out. I was almost passing out at the check out. Now I'm home, ready for bed....again. Hopefully tomorrow will be even better. This is just not a way to convince someone who HATES "nursing" to endure and continue on. After this leaves my system I'm pretty sure I WILL QUIT!

  1. I'm pretty sure that pumping does that to you. Everyone I know that doesn't nurse and just pumps gets it really bad. When you pump your supply is so much bigger! I had to wean myself off the pump when Mason got out of the NICU and went to straight nursing. 100% better. I never would have made it a whole year if I was pumping, it's miserable. Good luck, I hope you get better. Toby's sister is fighting it for the 3rd time in 6 weeks.

  3. One more reason why I never start, and why I never will!!!

  4. I'm so sorry. Mastitis is so AWFUL. I hope you feel better soon. For the record though, I got it twice with my first (for whom I pumped often) AND twice with my second (with whom I never pumped). I didn't see any correlation with pumping.

  5. I'm so sorry! It's no fun, I had it with Tyce and it was awful. Hopefully you can get on meds and it will get better soon.

  6. I say that he will be just great no matter what you decide, so if you choose to quit, just quit. Don't let anyone put any guilt on you! The whole family needs to be happy for everyone to be healthy. Thats my 2 cents for the day. :-) I hope you feel better!

  7. I have been lucky to not ever get this horrible infection. Sorry to hear what you are going through. I always thought nursing was so hard but so worth it! Good Luck and get better!

  8. Hey, Anna, I know this sounds weird, but try eating fresh pineapple (canned doesn't work) and lots of it. If you've ever tried to put fresh pineapple into a jello dish, you know the pineapple keeps the jello from setting. For some reason it does the same thing with your milk--I haven't known anyone who ate fresh pineapple whose ducts were able to stay clogged...crazy, eh? I'm so sorry about your mastitis! It really can be hell! I've had a clogged duct twice but it didn't last long enough (home remedies) for me to get really sick or super painful, but as much as it hurt was enough! I strongly encourage you to stick with nursing, but you also gotta do what you gotta do. Be prayerful and the Lord will open the way, either way!

  9. Anna, I hope you didn't think I was putting a guilt trip on you! I was just saying what I've observed! There wasn't any scientific research on my part! I'm totally baffled by the whole thing!
