Pregnancy Insomnia

Oh I am sooooo tired! What is my deal?? Seriously, I wake up at 7:30 to Dejah wanting chocolate milk and cartoons. I drag myself out of bed and get her all situated next to me in my bed. And for an extra fifteen minutes I lay there trying to wake up enough because Mycah is right behind her wanting the same thing. As soon as they are both situated, I proceed to the living room where I sit and try to wake up. I eat, and then the day continues on. Here's the real situation, I think I have pregnancy insomnia. I practically drag all day long until Mycah goes down for a nap around 1:00. I feed myself some lunch and then I crash! HARD! Of course my nap doesn't last long, because I usually wake up from Dejah wanting something or Mycah just waking up. Usually after I recover from my MUCH NEEDED nap I feel better. The worst part about this whole thing is that I gain energy throughout the evening. Around 9:00, my girls are in Bed and Alex is winding down. 9:30-10:00 Alex is crashing and I don't feel a bit tired. Last night it was nearly 11:00 and I was literally laying in bed wondering when that "tired feeling" would hit me. It didn't, so I grabbed a book off the book shelf and went into the living room to read. Sleep didn't come until midnight. It seems that this is becoming a nightly occurrence, and I don't know how to fix it. Ideally, I'd love to have that energy during the day...no nap...and wind down with everyone else. What do I do?

  1. You probably should just try to go to bed at 10:30 even though you aren't tired and eventually you will probably be able to go to sleep at 10:30. I think having a regular bed time and waking time is the best thing for your body. But you're pregnant so you are probably just going to be tired and that's ok. Don't be so hard on yourself.

  2. Try taking away that extra nap in the afternoon and I bet you'll be super tired by bedtime. But hey guess what, I'm the same way and I'm not even pregnant!!!

  3. I had the same problem this last go around. The only things I found that worked were to keep the nap, getting rid of it didn't help me at all it made things worse. I went to the chiropractor and that helped a TON! Expecially when you get really big. Chiropractor is great for kids with ear aches too. That was an interesting and hard lesson to learn for us. And those last few months I had to start taking Unisom at night. I started with just a half a pill because I was scared, but the last month went to a whole pill. It is perfectly safe to take when pregnant and really helps! And the funny thing is after the baby comes you will find you just don't need it anymore. Good luck Anna I feel for you.

  4. Too funny, I just came from Shelly's blog and said the same thing to her that I offer to you.
Prepare for the morning while you have your second wind at night. I went through the same thing with #5. I was so tired all day but couldn't sleep at night. My mid-wife suggested a natural sleep aid it helped with sleep but I was still tired. I would ask your Dr.
While you are a wake think of things that would entertain your children while you rest especially Dejah for the rest of Mycah's nap.
My kids loved books read to them in my voice on the tape player.
They still remember it more then 15 years later.
I had toys put up for special times. I would bring out those toys that were fun and easy to clean up and they played while I laid on the couch usually feeling sick. =)
I also had cereal in bowls covered in plastic wrap and sippie cups ready for them for breakfast.
Tupperware cups with drinks ready for them also saves energy when you don't have it.
Get them a drink and you will always be getting drinks teach them how to get their own and they will get the little ones a drink too. =) I also had little snacks in baggies that I kept in a bowl on the table. They loved being able to choose.
Good luck I hope you can use something I shared.
This too shall pass. Your doing great.
